GRUMPY KATE (214 words)
Grumpy Kate does not like today's date. It is Valentine's Day.
At 10:30 am, six kids in her 2nd grade class are delivered smiley face balloons.
One of the balloons smiles at Grumpy Kate. She frowns even more.
At 11:30 am, five other kids each receive a teddy bear.
One of the bears stares at Grumpy Kate. She squints so she cannot see it.
At 12:30 pm, four lucky kids are brought cheesy pizza for lunch.
The pizza smells so great to grumpy Kate. She crosses her arms over her stomach.
At 1:30 pm, three boys get chocolate covered strawberries.
The strawberries look yummy. She pouts her lips.
At 2:30 pm, two girls receive a special rose.
But poor Kate, clinches her fist with no rose as she steps onto the bus to ride home.
At 3:30 pm, there is one lonely and grumpy Kate.
"I hate today's date!" yells Grumpy Kate as she slams the door to her home.
At 3:31 pm, Grumpy Kate's eyes and mouth open wide. Her arms drop to her side.
To her surprise, her parents are kneeling and waiting to embrace her and to tell her she is loved.
Kate is beaming. She joins the family hug.
At 3:35 pm, Kate likes today's date! It is Valentine's Day.
